- Pack the House for Charity 2010
A special thank you to everyone who supported the Indiana Ice's 16th annual "Pack the House for Charity" hockey game! The hockey game was a truly fun and exciting experience as the Ice went on to beat Team USA. Conseco Fieldhouse was packed as over 10,000 hockey fans cheered the Ice to victory and supported great organizations like The Villages!
Thanks to the Indiana Ice, our generous corporate and community partners, board members and friends of The Villages, Prevent Child Abuse Indiana and Dads Inc., a record number of tickets were sold, giving our Villages' families a fun-filled Sunday afternoon at Conseco Fieldhouse. In addition, over $8,300 was raised to fund programs and services offered by The Villages for the special children and families we are privileged to serve.

- Dancing with the Celebrities - Jim's Story
On May 23 Jim Inman and Liz Kellett danced their way to victory at the 3rd Annual Dancing with the Celebrities competition in Bloomington. Not only did they rock the stage and won the Judges Choice award; Jim and Liz raised over $16,000 for children served by The Villages’ office in Bloomington.
As we sit here and reminisce about the fun-filled event, no one can share that experience better than the man himself, Jim Inman:
“The experience was a very interesting one, to say the least. I never expected it to become as involved as it was. I guess when you sign up for a new endeavor you don’t realize all the different parts that have to come together – not just learning the dance, picking music, making adjustments, rehearsing the same parts over and over and OVER again – but also the fundraising. I’m still trying to get my arms around the fact that through dine-and-donates, a couple of smaller fundraisers and a big send-off event the weekend before the show, we raised around $11,000. And to learn after the competition that we not only beat our $12,000, but raised $16,000 was an enormous feeling of satisfaction.
As for the show itself – I’ve talked in front of a variety of crowds… emceed a variety of events… all kinds of presentations. But, when there is a routine to follow, and you’re counting on your memory and your partner to help you, the nerves start going haywire. Our first dance started off great with the Villages kids, and Liz and I rolled out on the stage okay. However, a couple of missed steps threw us off, and my concentration level dropped. Fortunately, the judges were forgiving for the “first dance jitters.”
The second dance – a Foxtrot – was slower, and we aced it, I felt. There were a couple of minor marks from the judges, but still a good score.
The samba was our last dance. We were the only ones doing it, so I knew it had to be done well. I had picked the song, and the routine was my favorite. I had a quick pep-talk from a good friend who told me to go all-out for the last one. When the music started, I felt the nerves. But, about ten seconds into the routine, I lifted Liz into the air – and it was perfect. From there, I knew we had it. When we were done and in the final pose, I could see that people were clapping… hard… and cheering… hard… and getting on their feet. It was one of those moments in your life where you hope you can remember the little details, because it really was pretty powerful. At some point in life everyone needs a cheering section, and that night I definitely had one. For the samba, the feet matched the music, the arms were in the right spots, and the audience was into the routine. That combination of everything was what got us through to the end and why the judges give us a 10–10–10 for a perfect score – the only one of the evening!
At the awards, Liz and I won the Judge’s Choice for the best score. I had received a text message right before telling me our fundraising was “WELL over $12,000.” So, I felt like we had accomplished our goal.
At our kick-off event early in the year, I told Liz that I was “in it to win it.” The way I look at this experience was a challenge to myself to do some new things. I’m very glad to have brought some hardware home (a nice trophy), but more importantly I learned that anyone can do anything when motivated enough. I wanted The Villages kids to have some opportunities that I had growing up, and to also show them that even when there are bad things around them, there are still good people out in the world who will try and help.
I think it was all summed up by one of my “Lindy Hoppers,” who is a Villages kid. Emily asked her mother (who has adopted her from The Villages) “why is Jim doing this dance thing.” Her mother told her that it was to help The Villages. Emily said “you mean he’s doing this for kids like me?”
Yes, that’s exactly why I did it.”
Fans of Jim and Liz’s cheered loudly, clapped their hands and got out of their seats to salute the dancing duo’s tremendous effort. But their biggest cheering section couldn’t be there that night…the over 1,000 children served daily by The Villages’ Bloomington office – the ones whose lives have been enriched by the generosity of Jim and his tireless effort of raising money for vulnerable children in his community. Thank you Jim for being a CHAMPION for CHILDREN!!!

CHAIRish the Children 2008: Highlighting the Wonder of Childhood
In early November, the imagination of childhood filled the Indianapolis Artsgarden as ordinary wooden chairs were transformed into airplanes, tricycles, pirate ships and much more! CHAIRish the Children 2008 featured fifty student artists from Herron School of Art and Design, and two guest artists, who donated their time and talent to create these one-of-a-kind chairs.
The chairs were used for a silent auction which raised critical funds that will support programs and services for abused and neglected children in Indiana provided by The Villages and Prevent Child Abuse Indiana. The Villages thanks all the organizations and individuals who provided invaluable support to make this event possible.

Golf Classic Reaches Goal of $84,000
It was a beautiful, sunny, warm day when nearly 120 golfers, each of them a champion for children, joined us at The 84 Lumber Villages Golf Classic Presented by ESCO Communications on September 18, 2008 at Broadmoor Country Club. This year's event raised more than $84,000 for program funding and youth scholarships, and will help The Villages' staff recruit, train and support the growing need for foster and adoptive families to care for the very fragile children we serve each day!
The support of our sponsors has been invaluable to The Villages' special children, and each of these generous businesses, organizations, and individuals assured that the Golf Classic was a huge success!
